Description
The bird’s Eye chili is a very tasty pepper rate at 100,000 SHU, which is about 1/3 the heat of a habanero. Bird’s eye chili is common in Asian countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, India and Sri Lanka. In India, it is a part of Kerala cuisine. With an estimated 100,000 Scoville heat unit rating, the short, slender fruits were once rated the hottest in the world by the Guiness Book of World Records. Since then, it has been replaced several times by varieties of Habanero and Bhut Jalokia (seeds of these are available in our store).
“Spice up” your soups or soak them in oil that can be added to your dishes. Hot peppers have long been used as a spice in a variety of ethnic cuisines and are considered to have medicinal properties. Capsaicin, the active principle, releases endorphins that can relieve pain and itching and can be used to burn out a cold. It is also used for sore throat, circulatory problems, and problems in the GI tract. It can, however, cause other stomach problems if consumed in excess.
